SINGING A NEW SONG

(January 20)

“Rejoice in the Lord, O righteous ones; praise is meet for the upright (τοῖς εὐθέσι πρέπει αἴνεσις). Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto him a new song, chant well unto him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all his works are in faithfulness.” (Ps 32: 1-4)

I’m going to stand upright today, and give praise where praise is due: to the Lord, for all His works in my life up until this very moment. I could find things to grumble about this morning, as I often do when I read the morning news. But the psalm quoted above offers me “a new song,” which broadens my perspective, celebrating the Lord’s word and works, not ours.

As I begin my work-day on this snowy Vienna morning, I thank God for broadening my perspective and possibilities, through faith in Him. I stand upright and embrace my responsibilities in gratitude, rather than slug around in despondency, self-centered fear, or self-centered expectations of others. “Rejoice in the Lord, O righteous ones; praise is meet for the upright… Sing unto him a new song, chant well unto him with jubilation.” Amen!
