RESURRECTION IN OUR DAILY LIVES

RESURRECTION IN OUR DAILY LIVES

(Sunday, July 16)

I look for (Προσδοκῶ / Чаю / exspecto) the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.” (Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed)

This Sunday, as we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection from the dead, we also celebrate *our* resurrection from the dead. Our communion with and in the Body of Christ is communion in and with the Body of the *risen* Christ, and not of One dead. In fact, we receive new life in Him and are renewed in Him every day and at any moment, whenever we find ourselves in some kind of rut, some kind of “tomb,” and reach out to Him, to pull us out. That’s why we profess in the Creed that we constantly “look for,” “long for,” and “expect” the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come, in any given circumstance. Through our faith we can let Christ manifest that new life already here and now, “on earth as it is in heaven,” whenever we choose life over death, faith over fear, forgiveness over resentment, humility over pride, gratitude over dissatisfaction, and hope over the dread that comes with embracing “the wisdom of this world.”

This morning let us approach Holy Communion with faith in the One who can and will pull us out of our ruts, – the big ones, like wars and other man-made catastrophes, and the small ones, like our personal little resentments and other fear-based thinking. “I shall not die, but live, and proclaim the works of the Lord!
