THE FEAST OF THE ANGELS

THE FEAST OF THE ANGELS

(Thursday, November 21)

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.” (Mt 18:10)

Here our Lord is talking about all His people, all of us, as “these little ones,” all of whom have their angels. How very dignifying for each of us, that we have our very own, invisible guardians, assigned to each of us by God to pay special attention to us, even while they always see the face of God in heaven. One might think, if one were always seeing the face of God in heaven, he or she would not want to be distracted from this glorious vision onto anyone else, let alone us little people down here. But apparently, we are so important to God, that “our” angels do watch out for us. It’s their job.

I’m thinking about this dignifying fact today, as those of us on the New Calendar celebrate the feast of Archangel Michael and All the Angelic Powers. Whenever we might lose sight of the presence of God in our lives, our angel or angels maintain a clear vision of our reality, visible and invisible, ready to nudge us back toward our God-given purpose if we’ve gone off track. We can always appeal to them for help, when we’ve lost our focus, because our focus matters. It matters to God, and so it matters to them. Thank You, God, for connecting our visible and invisible worlds, and thank you, our angels, you invisible good guys in our midst, for your service.
