LETTING THE LITTLE GIRLS SPEAK

LETTING THE LITTLE GIRLS SPEAK

(Saturday, September 30)

Today’s OC-celebration of the three little girls, the Holy Martyrs Faith (Vera), Hope (Nadiezhda), Love (Lyubov), and their mother, Sophia (i.e., wisdom), is making me think about the virtues their names represent.

I’m thinking about faith, hope, and love as three little girls inside of me, who are never meant to become “grown-ups” in the way society would have them do. When it comes to my faith, my hope, and my love, these three little girls inside me are ushered on by their mother, Wisdom, to be who they are, in the face of widespread cynicism, fear, self-loathing and others-loathing. The little girls speak freely and honestly, when the “grown-ups” are bound by a complicated net of people-pleasing and insecurity, based on a primitive kind of self-preservation that keeps them stuck in their past. Their mother, Wisdom, inspired by the Source of all Wisdom, our Lord Jesus Christ, liberates the little girls to be themselves, in the new light and life He shines through them.

Thank You, Lord, for Your courageous, holy witnesses and their stories. Let us let the little faith, hope, and love inside of us speak today, by their liberating example and prayers, that we may be ourselves, – as You call us to be according to Your Wisdom, – and not according to the “wisdom” of this world.
