WE ARE ALL “SENT”

“As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (Jn 17: 18-21)

Today I don’t just happen to exist “in the world”; I am “sent” into it, as are all of us, who have come to believe in Christ. Whatever situations we might be in today; however ambivalent or even pathetic and messed-up our life-situations may be at times, we are “sent into” them, that we may be “sanctified by the truth.” We are “sanctified,” as Christ sanctified Himself for our sakes, by walking through our various situations on the cross-carrying journey. We shed the light of His word on our lives, baby-step by baby-step, and thus grow in the sometimes-painful, yet always rewarding, process of “salvation,” which is returning us to oneness with God and all of creation.

Today let me remember that I am “sent,” by One far greater than myself, or any authority in this world. And let me let myself be “sanctified” by His truth, as I turn away from delusions, like wishful thinking or self-centered fear. In Christ, I can walk through things today, doing the next right thing with His name in my heart. Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner.
