HOPE, OUR PROTECTION

HOPE, OUR PROTECTION

(Saturday, November 9)

He who dwells in the help of the Most High shall abide in the shelter of the God of heaven. He shall say to the Lord, ‘You are my helper and my refuge. He is my God, and I hope in him.” (Ps 90: 1-2, Septuagint-translation)

Because I am traveling today, and once again find myself outside my familiar surroundings, I appreciate the unchanging “refuge” of familiar Scripture-passages like this one. I might tend to feel vulnerable and insecure in unfamiliar situations as I travel, but I can “dwell” and “abide” in a stable place, if I choose to lean on God, in a God-focused way of being, regardless of the various places and persons/personalities I encounter. As I say, “He is my God, and I hope in Him,” I realize that hope in God is my protection from the false hopes and fears that come from self-reliance or people-reliance.

God sees each of us, and has His good purpose for us, in all our comings and goings and encounters, in all our successes and failures. Let me be humbled by His hope and trust in me, as I embrace hope and trust in Him. “You are my helper and my refuge. He is my God, and I hope in him.”
