TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS
“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message! Be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.” (2 Tim 3: 16 – 4: 2)
I want to be “equipped” today, “for every good work,” – and for that I need more than just a cup of coffee and a workout on the treadmill. (The coffee and the workout are important, no doubt; but I’m just saying, I need more than that). I need a dose of words “inspired by God” and “useful for teaching” me, and lifting me up to God’s presence and truth in my life.
So today, before I get my physical exercise, and before I let myself be bombarded with merely-human words and news, which tend to flood my heart and mind with meaninglessness, let me open up to some “training in righteousness.” Let me let myself be God-inspired, “with the utmost patience in teaching” myself His way. “Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes.” (Ps 118/119: 12)
