LOOK UP

“’…Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.’ And he told them a parable: ‘Look at the fig tree, and all the trees; as soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all has taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.’” (Lk 21: 28-33)

Sometimes, when things are falling apart, the Lord is telling me here, it’s time to “look up” and realize that “redemption is drawing near.” He’s challenging me to embrace faith, rather than fear, even when it seems like the end of the world. At the risk of sounding nihilistic, sometimes “all” needs to fall apart, – or that which one has considered to be “all,” in this world that “will pass away,” – in order to re-discover or “re-deem” the kingdom of God, which “will not pass away.”This morning let me embrace the kingdom of God, which is always “near,” regardless of how my temporal circumstances are.

Today the Lord challenges me to “raise my head” in faith, and turn away from fears and obsessions with regard to my various situations, relationships, and work. All this shall pass, while His kingdom and mercy shall not. “Thy kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven!”
