LIKE SPARKS THROUGH THE STUBBLE
”But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them… For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever.” (Wisdom of Solomon 3: 1, 4-8)
So who are “the righteous” being described here? Are they perfect? No. Otherwise they would not have to be “disciplined a little.” They are all of us, who choose to belong to God; who place ourselves willingly into “the hand of God” and let Him do for us what we can’t do for ourselves, and that is, “shine forth” in Him, Who is the Source of Light and all “righteousness.”
Let me not be discouraged today, if things aren’t going according to “my” plan, or if some of my expectations seem to go up in flames, whether personally or professionally. Let me rush back into “the hand of God,” and “run,” with other cross-carriers, “like sparks through the stubble.” Lord, be that spark in me today, even as I am “disciplined a little,” that I may “shine forth” in You, through my ups and downs.
