TRANSFERRED TO THE KINGDOM

He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church…” (Col 1: 13-18)

As the Apostle reminds me today, I’ve been “transferred.” From where? From “the dominion of darkness,” where one can’t see anything. To where? To a kingdom, where the visible Son, made visible to us in His incarnation, as “the image of the invisible God,” is King. He is “head of the body,” holding it all together in His nurturing light. In His light I can see where I am, and my way forward.

But I’m not held in God’s “kingdom” against my will. I can slip back into “darkness,” as I have time and again, where no way forward, no growth, is possible. This morning I choose to be “transferred,” once again, into His kingdom, as I look to His image: “O Christ, the True Light, Who enlightens and sanctifies every man that comes into the world: Let the Light of Your countenance be signed upon us, that in it we may see the Unapproachable Light, and guide our steps in the doing of Your commandments.“ Amen.
