“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands on the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” (Ps 1: 1-3)
Indeed “blessed is the man” who makes this healthy choice every day. It is a choice, on the one hand, between “the way of sinners,” which makes me “sit” in place, “in the seat of scoffers,” – or, on the other hand, of “the law of the Lord,” which leads me to growth, like a tree “that yields its fruit in its season.”
I know both these paths from experience. I’ve experienced both sitting in place, doing the same, sinful thing over and over again, on “the way of sinners”; and I’ve also experienced the quiet “delight in the law of the Lord,” with its steady growth, sometimes quick and sometimes slow. So let me choose growth today, and stay close to God’s “streams of water,” because I have that choice. Let me let Him “bless” me today, so I can “prosper” in Him.
