“Shout with jubilation unto God, all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness. Come before his presence with rejoicing. Know that the Lord himself is our God; it is he that made us, and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.” (Ps 99/100: 1-3)
It wasn’t “my” idea, to come into being. And yet, here I am. What a humbling, light-filled fact this is, although I must admit, I do not think about it all that much. There are many phenomena like that in my life: I mean, things and circumstances in my particular life, which I tend to confront as if they were “my” idea, and hence “mine.” But actually, there is the invisible hand of my Creator in my every breath, my every step. It’s all “His,” and “we are His people,” to whom He is by no means indifferent.
So let me keep my eyes wide open to this refreshing fact today, keeping God in the picture “with gladness.” Today let me unburden myself from the delusion of carrying my whole world on my own shoulders. It is not my will, my efforts, that brought it all into being, nor is it my will and my cares that sustain it all today. Today I need not self-isolate from my Creator, Who invites me to “come before His presence with rejoicing.”
