“And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we do for you, so as to strengthen your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. Amen.” (1 Thess 3: 12-13)
The “coming” of our Lord Jesus Christ, for which we now prepare in a special manner (in the Nativity Fast or celebration of Advent), is something for which I am called to prepare constantly, on a daily basis. Because He is the One who is “coming again” (πάλιν ἐρχόμενον), and again, into my life and into my heart, when I remain open to Him, clearing away any obstacles I may build up on His path to me. I do this with His help, as the Apostle mentions above: He “strengthens our hearts blameless in holiness,” making us “increase and abound in love for one another and for all.”
Today, amidst any noise or obstacles on my journey of preparation, let me keep my focus on His help, in prayer. And let me not be discouraged, but re-focus, in repentance, when need be, as I make my way to Him. Because He can, and does, “strengthen my heart” so it can increase and abound in love for Him and for all.
