GUARDING THE MOUTH & SOUL
“He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles.” (Prov 21: 23)
Unfortunately this is a truth I often remember only in hindsight. I remember it after entering a useless debate, or sharing useless information, or being inconsiderate of the person with whom, or at whom, I was speaking. And yet, as discouraging as that may be, I can build on such experiences, so that today I have the foresight of this wisdom from Proverbs, rather than just remember it in hindsight.
Today let me take a small step back, and listen a bit more, in any conversation I might have. Let me think twice before sharing information, be it online or face-to-face, asking myself, Is it worth it? Let the word of God help me to help myself in “guarding my soul from troubles.”
