  “’Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.’ And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority/power, and not as their scribes.” (Mt 7: 24-29)

     Jesus taught the people (including us) in a different way, “and not as their (our) scribes.”...

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 3: 9-11)

I find this so encouraging, to be called “God’s field,” and “God’s building,” in this whole messy business of life. What the great Apostle Paul is telling me here is that I am called both to growth and progress, through it all. We are all God’s precious works-in-progress, in this life. And, as it happens with any project in this life, it’s about progress, not perfection, while we’re at it.
