Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old received divine approval. By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear.” (Hebr 11: 1-3)

I’m thinking that the atheist view is also a faith, because it is a “conviction of things not seen.” Because the atheist has “not seen” that God does not, indeed, exist. The atheist “faith” is not, however, an “assurance of things hoped for.” It is a choice, rather, to close the door on hope and on the ambivalences of mystery.
