“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ So he said, ‘I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.’” (Gen 3: 8-10)

In “The Fall,” Adam and Eve changed their focus; they turned away from God’s Way of doing and knowing things, and decided to pursue their own. And this decision, to rely and focus on themselves, in pursuit of a way and a knowledge without God, leads them to fear. Self-reliance leads us to fear, because in self-reliance, we realize (sooner or later) that our own, human shoulders are insufficient to...

“…So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. We had fa...

And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, ‘God has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, for Cain slew him.’ To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time men began to call upon the name of the Lord.” (Gen 4: 25-26)

It was only then, “at that time,” after The Fall, that “men began to call upon the name of the Lord.” Things changed. I don’t know the exact reason for the change at this specific moment, – why it happened after Enosh was born to Seth, who was born to Eve after Cain killed Abel. But I do know from the Bible that “men began” a different kind of relationship with the Lord at that point, by calling upon His name. I’d like to reflect on the simple fact of that change.

Things changed back then, and the...
